communal making

Inspired by the ancient tradition of mandala making, the aim with this large scale installation was to engage visitors with a meditative experiential communally shared creation in a green space. Found plant material was collected from the gardens in advance.  After a discussion around the history and symbolism of mandalas, how and why we might make something influenced by them, the piece was begun. Made as a temporary creation under the oaks in the National Botanic Gardens all the material was gathered at the end of the day and returned to the gardens through the cycle of composting.
